Quoting renowned philosophers is common, but I resonate with Dory from Finding Nemo, who, in the face of life’s challenges, wisely advises, “Just keep swimming.” Twinkle Khanna added, “May the adventures never cease.”

Ever wondered about the experience of aging, especially as one enters the significant milestone of the 50s? Twinkle Khanna, with her characteristic wit, offers intriguing insights. In her recent blog post for The Times of India, the actor-author delves into the process of aging and explores why it instills fear in people.
Reflecting on the commencement of her 50th year, Twinkle Khanna admits to feeling “weary” of women her age discussing the concept of aging “gracefully.” In a humorous recount of a summer moment, she had proudly proclaimed over a WhatsApp chat about her newfound calm and patience, courtesy of yoga. However, her self-proclaimed “iridescent bubble” burst when a routine blood test revealed that her testosterone levels had “plummeted to zero.”
“This news hit me harder than discovering a strand of grey hair in my eyebrow. For a significant part of my life, I coasted energetically on soaring testosterone levels. In the ’90s, when ‘woke’ was merely the antonym of ‘sleep,’ I would jest, ‘I am more of a man than most men I meet, and with the balls as well.’ Now, I found myself grappling with low energy and a handful of leftover jokes,” she expressed.
The actor initially attempted to brush off the looming arrival of her “big birthday.” “When that evasion tactic failed, I took to pre-empting it by casually informing people that I was already 50. On one occasion, my daughter corrected me, saying, ‘No, Mama, you are still 49.'”
Twinkle Khanna then shared her experience of an existential crisis, describing how she sat down with a calculator and crafted a “rough timeline,” projecting how her life might unfold if she lived until 85. The calculations involved subtracting the 50 years she had already lived and factoring in the hours spent sleeping over the next approximate 35 years. This left her with a mere 24 years of living ahead.
Her solace came when she remembered a famous dialogue delivered by someone whose eyes mirrored hers, “‘Babumoshai, zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi,'” referencing her father Rajesh Khanna’s iconic lines from the film Anand.
Concluding her blog, the actor highlighted that, more than the actual process of aging, people are frightened by the “prospect” of it. “Ageing, I have slowly come to believe, is only a battle if you try to fight the current,” she added.
