Katrina Kaif Shares Emotional Connection with Malaika, Her Early Role Model in Modeling Days 1″
Katrina Kaif Reflects on Emotional Bond with Malaika, Her Inspirational Role Model in the Modeling Era
In a recent interview, Katrina Kaif shared her early aspirations, revealing that when she first moved to Mumbai, her sole ambition was to be a model. During those formative days, Malaika Arora emerged as one of her role models. Reflecting on her journey in an interview with Mashable India, Katrina disclosed that her entry into acting happened serendipitously.
“When I started my career as a model in Bombay, my primary goal was to pursue modeling. Madhu Sapre and Lakshmi Menon were the supermodels I admired, along with Malaika, who was still active in modeling at that time. They were the women I looked up to, aspiring to follow in their footsteps as a model,” Katrina shared.
Although Katrina and Malaika have not collaborated professionally, they share a unique connection. At one point, Katrina Kaif was in a relationship with Salman Khan, her co-star in Tiger 3, whose younger brother, Arbaaz Khan (a producer and actor), was previously married to Malaika.
While Katrina later dated Ranbir Kapoor before tying the knot with Vicky Kaushal in 2021, Malaika divorced Arbaaz in 2017 and began dating actor Arjun Kapoor.
Malaika’s journey began in 1997 as a VJ on MTV, later transitioning into the modeling world. Her notable appearance in Bally Sagoo’s 1997 music video “Gur Naalo Ishq Mitha” marked the beginning of her iconic career. Making her Bollywood debut with the legendary dance song “Chaiyya Chaiyya” alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film “Dil Se,” Malaika continued to dazzle with dance songs in movies for the next 25 years.
Recently featured in Anirudh Iyer’s “An Action Hero,” where she danced with Ayushmann Khurrana on “Aap Jaisa Koi,” Malaika also appeared in the reality series “Moving in with Malaika” on Disney+ Hotstar last year. Her upcoming project includes a special appearance in Arjun Varain Singh’s buddy movie “Kho Gaye Hum Kahan,” set to release on Netflix India on December 26. Meanwhile, Katrina Kaif is gearing up for her next venture in Sriram Raghavan’s “Merry Christmas.”
The intertwining paths of Katrina Kaif and Malaika Arora, though not marked by professional collaborations, reveal a fascinating tapestry of shared experiences and connections. During Katrina Kaif ‘s association with Salman Khan, her co-star in Tiger 3, a deeper link formed, given Salman’s familial connection with Malaika through his brother Arbaaz Khan. Despite the complexities of the entertainment industry, both women navigated their personal lives with resilience—Katrina’s relationships with Ranbir Kapoor and eventual marriage to Vicky Kaushal, and Malaika’s journey from divorce to finding love with Arjun Kapoor.
Malaika’s journey in the entertainment world commenced in 1997 as a VJ, paving the way for a successful modeling career. Her presence in Bally Sagoo’s music video “Gur Naalo Ishq Mitha” that year marked the beginning of her iconic trajectory. Bollywood embraced her with the unforgettable dance spectacle “Chaiyya Chaiyya” alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film “Dil Se.” Over the next 25 years, Malaika continued to captivate audiences with her dance performances, including the recent “An Action Hero” alongside Ayushmann Khurrana.
Expanding her presence into the digital realm, Malaika engaged audiences with the reality series “Moving in with Malaika” on Disney+ Hotstar last year. Looking ahead, her special appearance in Arjun Varain Singh’s “Kho Gaye Hum Kahan” promises to add another chapter to her diverse repertoire, scheduled for release on Netflix India on December 26.
In the parallel trajectory, Katrina Kaif gears up for a new cinematic adventure in Sriram Raghavan’s “Merry Christmas.” As these two dynamic women continue to shape the narrative of their lives, their stories unfold with resilience, talent, and an enduring impact on the landscape of Bollywood and entertainment as a whole.
Sriram Raghavan’s latest film, “Merry Christmas,” featuring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, presents a whimsical trailer that echoes the distinctive style of the director’s previous work, “Andhadhun.”
The trailer unfolds with a quirky scene involving two mixer grinders—one filled with peanuts and red chillies, and the other seemingly containing sleeping pills. This imagery may evoke a sense of déjà vu for those familiar with Raghavan’s 2018 directorial venture, “Andhadhun,” wherein Tabu’s character, Nimi, creatively used a grinder to concoct crab puree, slyly presenting it to her husband as an ‘aphrodisiac.’ (Also Read: Agastya Nanda to make a big-screen debut with Sriram Raghavan’s upcoming film “Ekkis”; set to portray the role of an army officer.)
Subsequently, the trailer seamlessly transitions to unveil the universe of “Merry Christmas,” where Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s characters cross paths on Christmas Eve for the first time. This encounter sets in motion a series of intense events that entangle both characters in profound trouble. The trailer also features an appearance by Sanjay Kapoor, and Tinnu Anand’s voiceover provides an introduction to the narrative setup.
