Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ Surpasses Rs 700 Crores Globally, Outpacing Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan

On its impressive second Sunday, Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s film, “Animal,” raked in an outstanding Rs 37 crore, elevating its total domestic collection to Rs 432.37 crore. Globally, the movie has soared past the Rs 700 crore mark, marking a significant milestone for Ranbir Kapoor, who now joins the elite club of actors with such remarkable global box office success. The film is rewriting records, with domestic collections inching closer to the coveted Rs 500 crore club, a feat achieved only by Bollywood stalwarts Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol thus far. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, “Animal” has amassed a worldwide gross of over Rs 700 crore, having already surpassed Rs 660 crore by Saturday.

Animal’s second Sunday has surpassed the box office earnings of two Shah Rukh Khan blockbusters, “Pathaan” and “Jawan.” While the former garnered Rs 28.5 crore, the latter netted Rs 36.85 crore. Despite facing criticism for its portrayal of misogyny and excessive violence, Animal has outpaced “Pathaan” in total collections after the second weekend, reaching Rs 432.37 crore.

After its second Sunday, “Pathaan” had accumulated Rs 429.9 crore (on its 12th day), a figure that Animal has already exceeded. However, “Jawan” had a considerable lead at Rs 477 crore after its second weekend, which was the film’s 11th day.

“Animal” is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language action drama film directed and edited by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who co-wrote the screenplay with Pranay Reddy Vanga and Saurabh Gupta. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Murad Khetani, and Pranay Reddy Vanga under T-Series Films, Bhadrakali Pictures, and Cine1 Studios, the movie features an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Tripti Dimri. The storyline follows Ranvijay “Vijay” Singh as he discovers an assassination plot against his father and embarks on a journey of revenge.

Officially announced in January 2021, the film entered principal photography in April 2022, completing by April 2023. Boasting a runtime of 201 minutes (3 hours 21 minutes), “Animal” stands out as one of the lengthier Indian films. The movie’s music is composed by JAM8, Vishal Mishra, Jaani, Manan Bhardwaj, Shreyas Puranik, Ashim Kemson, and Harshwardhan Rameshwar. Cinematography is handled by Amit Roy, and the editing is done by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

“Animal” had its theatrical release on December 1, 2023, in both standard and IMAX formats. The critical reception has been mixed, with reviews offering varying perspectives on the film.

Despite the controversies, Animal continues to maintain an impressive pace at the box office. The film now aims to break the record set by “Gadar 2” at Rs 525 crore. With a free 10-day window before the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s third film of the year, “Dunki,” and Prabhas’ actioner “Salaar” hitting cinemas on December 22, Animal aims to maximize its earnings before the screens are significantly reduced due to the big Christmas releases. The ultimate goal is to surpass the records set by “Pathaan” (Rs 543 crore all India) and “Jawan” (Rs 640 crore all India).

Since its release on December 1, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s “Animal” has generated significant buzz. While the movie has found favor with the general audience, it has faced criticism for allegedly ‘glorifying’ misogyny and toxic masculinity. Despite the controversy, the film maintains a thriving performance at the box office.

As of now, “Animal” holds the position of the fourth highest-earning Hindi film of 2023. On the global scale, it secures the eighth spot in the list of the top 10 all-time highest-grossing Hindi films worldwide.

Despite facing a clash with Vicky Kaushal-starrer “Sam Bahadur,” Animal has consistently outperformed the Meghna Gulzar directorial in terms of box office earnings

On its tenth day at the box office, Animal crosses the Rs. 400 crore mark in India, with the Ranbir Kapoor starrer raking in an impressive Rs. 41 crores on its second Sunday.

The Ranbir Kapoor-led film “Animal” has ignited the box office, achieving the remarkable feat of entering the Rs. 400 crore club in just 10 days. Preliminary estimates suggest that on its 10th day, “Animal” garnered approximately Rs. 40 crores, bringing its total collection to an impressive Rs. 438.49 crores.

Despite facing challenges such as an A rating, a runtime exceeding three hours, and sharing screens with “Sam Bahadur,” “Animal” stands out as the biggest blockbuster of 2023. The film is rewriting records and is poised to establish new benchmarks at the ticket window.

In terms of Sunday collections, the Hindi version of “Animal” contributed Rs. 36 crores, while the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions added another Rs. 4 crores. With its eye on the Rs. 500 crore club, “Animal” is gearing up to challenge the all-India collections of Shah Rukh Khan‘s Janmashtami release, “Jawan.”

The film is proving to be a lucrative investment for producers Bhushan Kumar and Sandeep Reddy Vanga, with returns on investment (ROI) expected to be among the highest in recent years. “Animal” is making history at the box office and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon

Despite achieving substantial success, “Animal” has not been without its share of criticism, particularly regarding its depiction of misogyny and toxic masculinity. Nevertheless, the film continues to capture attention and sustain a prosperous run at the box office.
