Salaar not getting enough screens

Film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan has raised concerns about the purportedly unjust distribution of screens between the two major films. In a tweet on Wednesday, he stated, “Pan India Star #Prabhas’ #Salaar unlikely to release in PVR INOX due to unfair screen sharing with #ShahRukhKhan’s #Dunki. #BoycottPVRInox.” He further highlighted that the makers have opted to withdraw the release of Salaar from multiplex chains in South Indian markets, indicating that the film will not be available in any of their properties in the region.

Adding a note of seriousness, Vijayabalan mentioned, “Hombale team is planning to take stern action against Ajay Bijli & PVR-Inox in the time to come as the decision has been made by him.” This development sheds light on the complexities and challenges in screen allocation for major releases, leading to discussions and potential repercussions within the industry.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki features a stellar cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover in pivotal roles. The film centers around the theme of illegal immigration.

Salaar unfolds in the fictional city of Khansaar, narrating the story of two friends, Deva and Vardha, portrayed by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, who eventually turn into arch rivals. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film also stars Shruti Haasan.

The upcoming releases of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar have sparked excitement among Indian audiences, pondering whether they will witness a homegrown cinematic spectacle to rival international blockbusters before the close of 2023. Filmmakers are eagerly awaiting the outcome, while film trade experts closely analyze the current trends in advance bookings and gauge the enthusiasm of theatergoers to better understand the cinematic landscape. Amidst concerns about the equitable distribution of screens, speculation is rife that these two films might inadvertently create a regional divide, with the North favoring Shah Rukh Khan and the South leaning towards the action-packed extravaganza of Prabhas.
