As of December 16, advance bookings for Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film ‘Dunki‘ are in full swing, setting the stage for a showdown with Prabhas’ action-packed release, ‘Salaar,’ whose advance booking opened a day earlier on December 15. ‘Dunki’ is scheduled for release on December 21, while ‘Salaar’ is set to hit cinemas on December 22.

In the battle of advance collections, ‘Dunki’ has reportedly secured Rs 1.36 crore, with approximately 38,000 tickets for 2836 shows in Hindi being sold on the opening day of advance booking. On the other hand, ‘Salaar’ has amassed Rs 1.52 crore in its advance booking, creating a competitive atmosphere at the box office.

With both highly-anticipated films releasing within a day of each other, ‘Dunki’ on December 21 and ‘Salaar’ on December 22, they are poised to go head-to-head for audience attention.

Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel, in a previous update, anticipated that the next three days would provide more clarity on ‘Dunki’s’ box office performance. He noted, “Dunki’s initial pre-sale starts on a remarkable note. If the momentum continues, then Dunki will challenge top films of 2023 in terms of final advance booking.”

About the films, ‘Dunki’ features Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and others in pivotal roles, marking the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani. On the other hand, ‘Salaar’ is touted as a high-octane action film with a world-building concept similar to the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, starring Prabhas, Shruti Haasan, and Prithviraj in key roles. The box office clash between these two mega releases is eagerly awaited, and the coming days will reveal the extent of their impact.

As of Sunday, ‘Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire’ has triumphed in advance bookings, surpassing 100,000 tickets sold in India, accumulating an impressive Rs 2.14 crore. The film, spanning Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada versions, witnessed significant contributions from states like Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi.

In a symbolic gesture, acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli acquired the first ticket for ‘Salaar,’ expressing his support for this monumental Indian cinematic venture. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki,’ directed by Rajkumar Hirani, experienced a more subdued response in its advance bookings, accumulating a total of 69,834 tickets worth approximately Rs 2.31 crore for its Hindi 2D shows by Sunday morning.

Geographically, ‘Dunki’ found traction in states such as West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and Telangana. In North America’s premiere advance sales, both films displayed significant numbers, with ‘Salaar’ crossing the $1 million mark and ‘Dunki’ surpassing the $250,000 mark as of Sunday.

The theatrical release dates for these much-anticipated films are set for December 22 for ‘Salaar’ and December 21 for ‘Dunki.’ In terms of non-theatrical rights, ‘Salaar’ has secured satellite rights with Star TV for all languages and digital rights with Netflix, amassing an impressive Rs 350 crore. ‘Dunki,’ on the other hand, has fetched Rs 155 crore for its digital rights with Jio Cinema.

‘Salaar’ unfolds the story of a gang leader striving to fulfill a promise to his dying friend, battling rival criminal gangs.
